Vainglory is a video game that is in the same category as the other multiplayer online battle arena games like Dota 2 and League of Legends with the only difference being that it was primarily developed for tablets and smartphones. The gameplay is typical to that of others in the genre, where two opposing teams of 3 or 5 players each battle with each other to reach and destroy their enemy’s base while at the same time defending their base as the tug of war continues to control the three paths or lanes that are used to access the bases. The dense jungles between these lanes also have AI-controlled creatures that can be captured or killed.
Teams of five players each control their hero avatar on the game from the devices they are playing on. There are also minions in the game which are computer-controlled characters with weaker strength. Minions spawn at team bases and follow the lanes to the opponent’s base while fighting turrets and other enemies along the way. Turrets are towers line the lanes and try to repel the flow of enemy’s heroes and minions. Each of the players has a goal to destroy and demolish the turrets of their opponents and also to destroy the vain crystal which is the ultimate target present in the opponent’s base.
Players can earn mastery points and stars for their heroes by engaging in different matches with them. When a player plays any match, their hero gains mastery points. For hero mastery, the first star is unlocked when the player reaches 1100 hero mastery points. During a game, your hero mastery is visible to the other players at the loading screen.
Vainglory offers five main modes of in-game communication: static chat lines, team emoticons, strategic pings, party voice chat, and in-game chat which were introduced in the subsequent updates on the game. A recent update has also introduced hero upgrades and talents for Brawls, along with the use of joysticks to control the game.
